The interior of Mayan Palace is bathed in a colorful orange but is quite small. Fortunately there’s an enclosed beer garden in back. The traditional Mexican fare is solid but does not stand out. On a recent Sunday, we went for lunch and, sadly, there were no brunch items on the menu like huevos rancheros [tear]. (Fortunately, you can get huevos rancheros at 4am down the block at Taco Burrito Palace #2.) The chips at Mayan Palace were only ok, but the salsa was nice and spicy, uncommon these days. I had the carne asada, which was a bit tough and chewy even though it was cooked medium rare. We had an urge for tres leches (“three milks” dessert), but we went away with none. I like Mayan Palace but probably won’t be back until they marinade their carne asada longer and add tres leches to the menu.
