Club foot is not only our favorite double entendre in Chicago behind Curl Up and Dye (hair salon on Clark), but is also our favorite spot for pinball, pool, Tetris, and old movies shown on vacuum tube TVs in East Ukrainian Village. The décor is also a feast for the eyes: happy meal toys artistically arranged in glass boxes in a way that would make Andy Warhol jealous, an impressive collection of inflatable aliens and other characters like the Aqua Team Hunger Force, and an ode to punk & rock via memorabilia from the personal collection of the current and original owners Chuck Uchida (also the guitarist for The Defoliants in the late 80s and a recording engineer) and Lauree Rohrig. Speaking of music, DJs spin an eclectic array of tunes every night from an elevated booth and are happy to take requests even if they have to download it. The soundtrack ranges from punk to new wave to alternative to rock to oldies. Not bad considering that Club Foot has been going strong since 1995, replacing the dive bar Lizard Lounge (and by “dive” we don’t mean in the charismatic nuevo-Bohemian way). As an added bonus: the restrooms offer a most impressive collection of stickers and newspaper clippings. Club Foot is cash only but does have an ATM on the premises and its lack of a kitchen summons the Tamale Guy nightly. If you like Club Foot, you’ll also love nearby Happy Village, Inner Town Pub, Gold Star Bar, Phyllis’ Musical Inn and Rainbo Club, all of whom are pleasantly devoid of the Wicker Park Chads & Trixies.
