After a brilliant front nine (and back nine we shall not speak of) over at Jackson Park Golf Course, my partner in crime and I headed over to Beer Bistro to assuage our food & drink appetite after walking the course. The food was rather good: $5 cheese pizza (each additional topping $0.99) on Mondays and the the pulled pork with the parmesan-encrusted chips, the latter of which was recommended by the waitress who also suggested the burgers and fish tacos. Beers we had include Breckenridge Vanilla Porter, Surly Furious (on tap), Leffe Brune, and Caracole Nostradamus – barely a dent in the 13 beers on tap and 123 in bottles, which gives Beer Bistro the fifth largest beer selection in the city behind Hopleaf, Map Room, Quenchers, and Twisted Spoke. We enjoyed these fine beverages as we watched SportsCenter on several flatpanels and multiple people search for the bathrooms at the rear of the room and in the broom closet only to realize that they are located downstairs (where they also have a private party room with a full bar). The Brunswick-like backbar was also impressive and, along with the exposed brick and a neighborhood crowd, gives the place a warm character usually obtained only after several years even though Beer Bistro opened in 2005.
