Chicago Bistro Project “Quick Bite”
Though we’re fans of the food, the location of Rosebud on Rush tops the fine Italian cuisine, especially with its sprawling sidewalk cafĂ© right at the corner of Rush & Superior. The restaurant is housed within an ancient brownstone that once served as a music school until owner Alex Dana bought the place in 1992 and installed his third location of Rosebud following their most popular location in Little Italy (a favorite of Frank Sinatra & Tony Bennett) and the original Loop location (once a luncheonette and now gone). If you can snag a table in the patio, do so. Otherwise, bribe the maitre’ d for a window seat on the second floor after a cocktail in the intimate first floor bar (a reservation is required, regardless). Pretty much everything on the menu is good, but we like the fried calamari, caprese salad, chicken vesuvio, and veal parmigian. If you like Rosebud on Rush, you’ll find additional locations in Little Italy, the Loop (Theater District), River North, Highland Park, Naperville, and Schaumburg; two steakhouse locations in the Loop and near the Drake Hotel on Walton (where I once saw manager Lou Piniella after a Cubs game); and Carmine’s Steakhouse just a bit north in the Viagra Triangle. For more informaton, check out the Rosebud website. Mangia!
