From the serene mural of a Greek seaside town inside to the rooftop beer garden that overlooks the Sears Tower and the Loop outside, Pegasus Restaurant & Taverna is a superb option for lunch, after work or before a theatrical performance downtown. And then there’s the food… The rooftop deck serves an al fresco menu that is an abbreviated version of that which is found downstairs. This laminated menu illustrates a tapas-like litany of appetizer options and you can’t go wrong with any of them. The dolmadakia yialatzidolmades (dolmades or grape leaves stuffed with herbs and rice) were delectable, the kavourokeftedes (oven baked crab cakes) excellent, and the garides souvlakia (grilled shrimp on a skewer) superb. Also recommended are the souvlaki (flaming cheese—opa!), arni brizolakia (charbroiled thin lamb loin chops), akroyiali salata (cold octopus, shrimp, squid marinated in olive oil, lemon and herbs), and of course the gyros. Though they have other bottled beers, you’ve got to try the Hillas and Aris beer. My first visit to Pegasus was before my wife and I saw Jersey Boys at the Bank of America Theater, both of which made for an exceptional night.
